The fully booked module “Yoga and Death” is currently running in our heart project Yoga Studies. I attended the last meeting myself, as Krishna Chandra crawled down to us from his ashram in Ticino to reveal his view of things. He inspired me to write today’s blog about what is really important. What burns in my heart and underlies all my work: the path to freedom. In yogic: enlightenment. A big word. And an even bigger goal. For me, this translates into “awake, courageous, authentic” – the motto of my work.

I would like to remind us to return to the essentials, to what is really important – and to shape our lives around that and not the other way around. Is your job the most important thing for you? Is it the new house or the next promotion? Do you think that’s what you’ll remember on your deathbed? We regularly forget that we are going to die – and pretty soon. We act as if we still have forever and even conceal from the terminally ill that they will die. Yet this unavoidable fact is absolutely the most helpful thing to remind us not to wait any longer with our dreams. To stop putting off practicing. Not to wait until the day after tomorrow to start new, good habits. Be courageous – now! To be authentic – now! and to be awake – in this very moment.
I’ve had a note in my wallet for months: “I’m going to die. And that’s for sure.” Every time I pick it up, life becomes a little more sacred and I become a little more grateful.
There’s not much more to say. The rest is un-essential!
