Exercise to recognize your patterns
Take a moment and settle into a comfortable sitting or lying position.
Calm your breathing until your mind has slowed down a little.
Then scan through your own life and look for themes that repeat themselves. For example, in relationships, at work, with changes, when something comes to an end, with authority figures or with addictions. Are there certain emotional patterns such as anger, jealousy, greed, lack of self-confidence, etc. that keep coming up? What patterns do you recognize?
Reflect – preferably in writing – for a moment on these repetitive challenges that life has presented you with. Recognize that it could be a karmic pattern and ask yourself the following question:
“If your life was a school lesson, what would the lesson be about?”
End the meditation by thanking all the people and situations that have held a mirror up to you so that you can see and recognize your lessons.
Perhaps this short meditation will not give you a clear answer, but perhaps you will get a feeling for the challenges you face in life. Perhaps you can give up the resistance, accept yourself and your patterns benevolently and redefine the challenges as your tasks.
